Top Chef Alum, Brian Huskey’s, latest project is all set for its July 10th grand opening. I was invited to preview the eats at Tackle Box in Orange County before they officially open for business. Tackle Box sits right on the beach in Corona del Mar. A beautiful view with quick service tasty food perfect for a day at beach? I’m all ears… and stomach. Did I mention beautiful view? Literally right on the beach. Goodbye to crappy and expensive food at the beach! Describing Tackle Box as a gourmet concession stand is almost unfair. That connotation gives the vibe of some shoddy-looking shack. Rest assured, it’s everything but that. I’d describe it as no-frills unique food on a gorgeous beach. So what items did I try out?Chef Brian Huskey’s shrimp and romaine on squid ink roll. The elote was delicious. I’m a big fan of elote. I’m so excited for Tackle Box to open so I can enjoy some good corn while at the beach. Salmon poke with crispy rice, avocado, & citrus sesame dressing.Buffalo Cauliflowers.Agua Fresca with a beautiful beach view. I can get used to this life. Tackle Box has a slew of rolls and sandwiches available on their menu. Catfish fish and chips, chowder, lobster rolls, and banh mi are just a few of the items I’ll be coming back to try. They’ll also be a daily namesake ‘tackle box,’ which will run as a chef’s special. And guess who is teaming up with Tackle Box for their coffee? Solid Coffee! You may recognize the name from the articles in LA Weekly and LAist I wrote about them awhile back. Who doesn’t love a good cold brew? I may have to make Newport my go-to beach once Tackle Box opens instead of Malibu. Final verdict? Go and check it out! I love food that isn’t pretentious. Grab your friends and make it a beach day!
